Schedule & Rate of Pay: 

This frontline position works on Stand-by overnight to support a team of practitioners in a group living setting to support clients 24/7. This position is subject to a shift differential between $0.25 and $0.50 per hour for evening and weekend shifts. The schedule for this position is 40 hours a week.


The shift will be Wednesday - Sunday, 11:00pm - 7:00am and will start on July 3, 2024. This position may require flexibility in the schedule and you may require to work at 9:00pm or until 9:00am acting as an awake over night staff.


What to expect in the role:  

You'll be on stand-by to support adults with developmental, physical, and complex psychiatric disabilities in our "Macewan" group home. Individuals you support may have diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Schizophrenia, or other Mental Health conditions or developmental delays. If the Awake Over Night Staff need assistance you are expected to be available right away to help. Supporting clients in this position includes:


  • Provide medical, technological, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support  
  • Drive to meet clients, or be able to transport clients to activities or appointments throughout the day
  • Accompany individuals to activities, and assist with daily needs/responsibilities such as employment, physical activity, grocery shopping, or swimming.
  • Support clients with needs that could include personal care, g-tubes, and mobility such as wheel chairs, walker, lifts, etc.
  • Participate in the research, development, and implementation of client programs 
  • Learn the behavioural support plans to better understand client needs 
  • Complete required client documentation effectively 


Benefits: 

  • The starting hourly rate for this position is $16.35/hour  
  • Mileage is reimbursed at $0.50/km.  
  • Cost shared benefits will begin after 3 months probation.   
  • This role includes 4% vacation pay plus an additional 5 flex days after the first 3 months employment.  
  • All regular staff are eligible to pick up additional casual hours at any of our locations outside of their scheduled hours.  


Minimum Requirements: 

  • Minimum of a Canadian Certificate/Diploma in the Human Services sector (equivalencies will be considered) 
  • Intermediate computer skills 
  • Valid class 5 driver license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance by time of hire 
  • Must be comfortable and flexible with driving any client at any given time
  • Must be comfortable with swimming and being around pets 
  • Comfortable supporting a variety of individuals with different abilities, diagnoses, or behaviours, some of which can be intimidating 


Preferred Requirements: 

  • One-year relevant experience in the human services field is preferred and/or pervious experience in a group home.
  • Familiarity with Autism, Aggressive Behavior, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD and Developmental Delay is an asset 
  • Previous training or experience with lifts, transfers, or g-tubes 
  • Current trainings including First Aid/CPR, Medication Administration, Non-violent crisis intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behaviour Supports, etc.
