Job Title: People and Culture (HR) Generalist

Reports to: Director, People and Culture

Location: Cor Van Raay YMCA at Cavendish Farms Centre


Job Summary

The HR Generalist serves the mission of the YMCA of Lethbridge by participating in HR initiatives across the Association with a focus on engagement, compliance, culture, and continuous improvement. The main goals of this position are:


1. Elevate and enhance HR policies, guidelines, programs, and practices within the Association.

2. Develop and champion people strategies, that are aligned with the strategic plan, to help shape and enhance the employee experience and overall culture of the Association in pursuit of being recognized as an employer of choice.

3. Build strong relationships to strategically partner with all departments across the Association to assist and advise leaders with HR issues and questions.

Nature & Scope

The People and Culture (HR) Generalist will be responsible for supporting the People and Culture team and working directly with an assigned client group for all HR related matters including but not limited to workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management. The major responsibilities of this position are, but not limited to:

• Leadership and Strategic Planning

o Exemplify the YMCA of Lethbridge’s Core Values of caring, honesty, inclusiveness, respect, and responsibility.

o Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment of goals and objectives across the Association.

o Promote a positive, inclusive work environment, responding to general inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner and in accordance with Association policies and guidelines.

o Be a YMCA ambassador by engaging in and promoting practices and frameworks which centre diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

o Demonstrate a commitment to health and safety, incident management and emergency response.

o Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to identify needs or requests and provide detailed, specialized information, explanations and interpretations requiring significant judgement and tact.

• Organizational and Department Management

o Contribute to the creation and implementation of Association policies and guidelines.

o Carry out tasks requiring significant mental concentration and the use of analytical methods and processes regularly.

o Mentor and model best practices, setting high standards for excellence in execution.

o Work independently on diversified tasks, following policies, guidelines, and legislation.

o Investigate and support with employee relations issues as they arise and work collaboratively with stakeholders to resolve.

o Prepare reports using data analytics to proactively identify trends and build action plans.

o Facilitate New Employee and Volunteer Association training and Respectful workplace training, performing regular reviews of the content and delivery to improve the employee experience.

o Identify and evaluate risks to the Association’s people while implementing measures to mitigate risk.

o Review and provide recommendations on professional and legislatively accurate content that is engaging and informative.

o Facilitate lunch and learn educational sessions for employees and supervisors.

o Attend recruitment fairs, career fairs, and other events to support in attracting and retaining talent.

o Assist with the development, implementation and tracking of performance reviews.

o Work in collaboration with client group supervisors to manage return to work programs and provide guidance and oversight on disability case management.

o Maintain HR databases, workforce plans, and personnel files to ensure accurate and consistent data entry of employee information.

o Ensure employee filing systems and records are maintained and up to date.

o Complete exit and stay interviews for assigned client groups, analyzing data to identify trends and provide summaries and recommendations to the leadership team.

o Attend all required YMCA trainings and recertifications.

• Financial Management and Philanthropic Involvement

o Model the Association’s dedication to philanthropy.

o Participate in Fund Development Initiatives to further the impact of team efforts.

o Adhere to the team’s annual budget, managing expenses within your area and ensuring proper coding and documentation is provided.

• External Relations and Advocacy

o Be a YMCA ambassador and strategic leader in the community by developing partnerships and relationships through community groups, committee work, and outreach opportunities.

o Educate others on People and Culture initiatives and projects.

o Follow policies regarding confidentiality to safeguard data and information and handle sensitive information with a strong sense of ethics and confidentiality, in addition to all Association policies and guidelines.

o Identify People and Culture recommendations for growth opportunities in alignment with the Association’s strategic plan.


Physical Demands

• There are no physical/special demands for this position


Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Human Resources or equivalent

• Minimum of 1+ years of practical or lived experience is required

• Intermediate to expert knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite programs is required

• Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is considered an asset

• Previous non-profit experience is considered an asset

• Evidence of an acceptable Police Information Check and Child Intervention Check

• Three professional references are required
